Mr. Hanley Honors English III 12/8/10 Hester as Luxury to Her Lovers Adrienne Rich, a female poet, perpetuates her idea in When We beat(p) Aeaken: Writing as Re-Vision discussing the position of wo manpower in a society in which workforce dominate in. Richs idea directly gibe with Nathaniel Hawthornes novel, The Scarlet Letter, in which Hester Prynne, a woman who has been convicted of adultery, is sentenced to wear a scarlet letter, a symbol of her sin. Rich suggests that men view woman as objects or luxuries as protecters, nurse, cook, bearers of his seeds. Similarly, in Hawthornes novel, Hesters beloved feeling is contained in a love triangle between her husband, Chillingworth, who had get married her for blissfulness, and Dimmesdale who depends on her strength to commemorate his adultery crime a surreptitious. Hesters husband, who goes by the anonym Roger Chillingworth, is seen as a stranger in the beginning of the novel, merely no one knows that he is her hu sband. After the trial ends, Chillingworth visits Hester when she is in her cell with her baby, and Chillingworth tells her I draw thee into my heart, into its innermost chamber, and sought to sore thee by the warmth which they bearing made there.
